"how we choose to nourish ourselves, is the basis of our body, mind, spirit wellbeing"
Jo-Ann Carey
My Story
My passion for health and wellbeing started many years ago when I was diagnosed with three chronic auto-immunity diseases, namely sjogrens syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis and Raynaud’s syndrome.
My extensive family history of auto-immunity started me on a journey of self-discovery, at what I was intuitively beginning to understand through my own health – how we choose to nourish ourselves, is the basis of our body, mind, spirit wellbeing.
My health declined rapidly rendering me with chronic fatigue syndrome, and chronic pain, inflammation and leaky gut syndrome. This rendered me hospitalised and constantly in chronic pain. I was able to heal myself progressively using integrated nutrition and diagnostic testing working from the roots up, healing each system that contributed to my ill health.
I had been vegan since a child however my journey travelling to India later after I began to heal and progress led me further into the healing, attributes of plants. I travelled all over India living in small retreats learning yoga, and spiritual growth which fascinated me. I knew that my soul mission was to study integrated nutrition and share with people what I had discovered.
I began my journey into studying whilst I became pregnant with my first child India, as a student at the Institute for Optimum Nutrition in Richmond London. I embarked on five years of intensive study, discipline, focus and academia whilst having two children, such was my vision of success in my chosen studies so that I could teach people what I had discovered and learned, that by using plant food we can create a beautiful, healing homeostasis environment in the body that is both healing and creates longevity.
I learned so much about myself as a mature student (I was 38 and graduated at 44) and so much about the value of life coaching, and the wide array of popular dietary theories that people are indoctrinated into believing will heal them, together with the use of pharmaceuticals and the belief that these will instigate health and wellbeing.
My passion is to integrate clinical nutrition into the NHS to alleviate age onset illness, and the Western obesity epidemic that is killing and reducing people’s lives, whilst bestowing a huge financial burden on our NHS.
I knew there had to be another way to prevent and alleviate disease, and learning a deeper understanding about the power of nutrition on our health continued to inspire me towards my vision.
My ethos is always ethical, healing, spiritual so as to look at the body as a whole. I work with a patient’s unique bio-chemical individuality as we are all entirely genetically unique, this is where Functional Testing plays an incredible part of diagnosing and healing disease.
I use the testing together with energetic plant based healing modalities to give my patients bespoke, individual treatment protocols, to achieve their best health. The Nutritional Therapy approach is focused on holistic evidence based, comprehensive personalized approach to health and healing. I combine this with my Functional Testing to specify the organs of the body which are failing to support ones health.
I find that by shifting the underlying emotional and mental causes associated with illness, whilst I work on the physical presentation of disease, I achieve far greater improvements in my patient’s health and wellbeing. I may work with a patient four weeks to over a year, depending on the severity of my patient’s condition. A patient and therapist relationship is integral to the healing process which is why I work in depth with each patient creating trust in my ability to treat you.
I think of myself as a New Age whole food plant based holistic Clinical Nutritional Therapist that is so passionate about helping my patients to heal through using bespoke clinical/blood test, diagnostic testing and research together with a holistic approach.
So what drives me in my quest to appertain optimum health for my patients?
Each one of us is unique, and this uniqueness goes well beyond the exterior. It extends to the things that trigger us to become unwell, the signs and symptoms we experience and how well we are able to recover. For these reasons integrated nutritional therapy is a highly individualised healthcare utilising a multi-factor approach.
My strength is combining a strong, scientific, evidence based protocol together with holistic whole food plant based Clinical Nutrition principles to design practical, effective and sustainable treatment strategies that will progress your health.
Along with completing a Science Foundation Degree, Human Nutrition Degree together with Functional Diagnostic Testing at the World renowned Institute For Optimum Nutrition in Richmond, London, I am regularly attending Conferences, Seminar to constantly keep up to date with the latest progression in Holistic Nutrition. I am also a member of the NNA Governing Body.
I am personally Indemnity Insured.
